Capturing the Splendor of Nature and Divine Light
Birds of Fall 2015 and Winter 2016
Welcome to my visual diary of the beautiful birds I photographed during the fall and winter months. I was so blessed to encounter two new bird species for me....an Indigo Bunting and a Swamp Sparrow...both species photographed at the LA Arboretum. And, I photographed a Peregrine Falcon and a Merlin Falcon, in my own neighborhood, which is truly amazing!

This is a photograph of a Swamp Sparrow that I photographed at the LA Arboretum on December 31, 2015. Because this sparrow can be found across eastern and central North America in the spring and summer, and moves eastward in fall to winter in the Southeast, this bird is considered rare for the Los Angeles area.
Swamp Sparrows live in various wetlands, including freshwater and tidal marshes, bogs, meadows, and swamps and have longer legs than other members of its genus to allow them to wade in shallow water to forage. The Swamp Sparrow sometimes sticks its head under water to try to capture aquatic invertebrates
