Capturing the Splendor of Nature and Divine Light
Birds of Spring 2016
Welcome to my visual diary of the beautiful birds I photographed during spring. I wish I had more pictures, but during the season one of my cats became very ill and required hospitalization, surgery, and lots of medical care upon his return home. He was my priority and I did not go out into the field to take pictures for more than a month. I am happy to report that the kitty is much improved and while I was home bound, I was so blessed to encounter a new bird species for me....a Eurasian Collared Dove, photographed in my own backyard.

Two Eurasian Collared-Doves visiting my backyard on Sunday, May 8, 2016. I actually photographed these doves through my sliding glass door because I was afraid they would fly off if I opened the door to get a better look at them! While this species of dove can be found throughout the United States, this was my first time seeing this dove. This chunky relative of the Mourning Dove gets its name from the black half-collar at the nape of the neck. A few Eurasian Collared-Doves were introduced to the Bahamas in the 1970s. They made their way to Florida by the 1980s and then rapidly colonized most of North America.
