THE SONG OF A BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAK

This is a video featuring the beautiful song of a male Black-headed Grosbeak. The Grosbeak (a migratory bird for my area) was perched in my orange tree, and cannot be seen, but you can see the Mourning Doves eating safflower in the hanging feeders and a curious Fox Squirrel. I was inside my home, filming through my window screen, and had to stop filming when one of my cats decided to start playing with tissue paper and created too much noise to continue.

The Black-headed Grosbeak's whistled song rises and falls like an American Robin's, but it’s longer, sweeter, more varied, and less choppy in its phrases. Both males and females sing. The female's song is usually shorter, simpler, and quieter. She sings less frequently than the male, usually from the nest.
