The Nutmeg Mannikin is also known as the Scaly-breasted Munia or Spice Finch. This sparrow-sized estrildid finch is native to tropical Asia, but has been introduced into many other parts of the world and feral populations have established in Puerto Rico as well as parts of Australia and the United States. This male Nutmeg Mannikin, eating the seeds from this native grass, was photographed at the LA Arboretum.
