Capturing the Splendor of Nature and Divine Light
Birds of Summer 2015
This is a Yellow-fronted Canary that I photographed at Descanso Gardens a few years ago. At the time I took the picture, I had no idea what kind of bird this was and when I asked some of the Audubon people, they were not able to identify the bird either. Well, time went on and I forgot about this picture until July 20th when I received an e-bird alert for rare birds in the Los Angeles area stating that a Yellow-fronted Canary was sighted in Pt. Fermin. When I Googled the canary and saw the internet image, I knew that was my bird!! And the reason I could not identify this species was because this small bird, also known as the green singing finch, is native to sub-Saharan Africa (though it has been introduced to the United States and Puerto Rico)! So, mystery solved!
