An adult California Scrub Jay, trying to find a place to hide his peanut, in
my yard. While this species is year-round in California, Scrub Jays do not often visit my yard. When I do get a visitor, I am always happy for I am reminded of my childhood and my neighbor, Pop Pop. Pop Pop lived across the street from me and he would feed Scrub Jays from his hand. He would encourage me to visit and we would stand in his garden and the Jays would come onto our hands to get peanuts. It was a magical time for me, so the Scrub Jays hold a special place in my heart.
