Capturing the Splendor of Nature and Divine Light
Birds of Summer 2022
I unexpectedly, and joyfully, found this Harris's Hawk at my workplace! I was walking the grounds, marveling at all the new landscaping and sitting areas, and this hawk was perched on a chair; waiting for instructions from his handler.
My employer hired a local Falconry service to naturally, and effectively, ensure that Pigeons do not roost on the buildings. During the two years I was remotely working from home, due to Covid, my employer built two new buildings, which were designed by famed architect Frank Gehry. These buildings are state-of-the-art and my employer wanted to ensure they are kept as clean as possible.
Since Harris's Hawks are not native to California, it was a real treat to see this species of hawk up close and take some photographs. This species of hawk breeds from the southwestern United States south to Chile, central Argentina, and Brazil.
This hawk's name is, "Shady," and the Falconry service will bring a variety of birds of prey to my workplace, including owls, to keep the Pigeons away.
