A free flying Lilac-crowned Parrot (Amazona finschi) photographed in Burbank, California.
The Lilac-crowned Parrot is resident to western Mexico from southeastern Sonora to southern Oaxaca. The presence of this non-native species in California illustrates the capacity of humans to move wildlife around the planet for economic, social or aesthetic reasons. Its occurrence in California was first recorded in the San Gabriel Valley in 1976.
