This is a wild Black-tailed deer named "John Wesley". John Wesley was named by the staff of the First United Methodist Church of Pacific Grove after the Methodist Minister John Wesley (1703-1791). In the 18th century, John Wesley called upon people to rethink church and make the whole world their parish. It is in this spirit that the Church staff watches over John Wesley, who roams freely, since he has several birth deformities including a non-viable back leg. John Wesley is greeted by the staff when he comes to the church in the morning and is given fresh apples along with an endless dose of kindness and compassion.
