Los Angeles Zoo and Botanical Gardens
I am a proud member of the Los Angeles Zoo, which is home to more than 1,100 animals from around the world, representing more than 250 different species, many of which are endangered in the wild. The zoo is also a Botanical Garden, featuring more than 800 different species of plants, which provide food and shelter for many native and migratory birds, and also provides browse for many residents of the zoo.

The beautiful African Lion, Hubert, and his mate Kalisa. These lions are 19 years old and have been together for 13 years. They arrived in Los Angeles in 2014 from the Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle.
Post Script: Hubert and his mate, Kalisa, both 21 years old, were euthanized July 30th, 2020, after age-related health problems began diminishing their quality of life. Because these lions were hardly ever apart from one another, the zoo’s management made the difficult decision to put them to sleep at the same time so that one of them would not have to live without the other.
